Immerse yourself in the deep spirituality and rich history of the South Caucasus with our "Treasures of Armenia" trip. This 5-day itinerary has been meticulously designed for travelers with limited time who wish for a complete immersion in the culture of the world's first Christian nation. From the vibrant urban life of the capital to the serenity of alpine monasteries, each day is a new page of living history.
Yerevan and the Spiritual Heart
Our base will be Yerevan, the "pink city", one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities on the planet. From here, we will explore the architectural contrasts that define the country. We will travel to the pagan past at the Garni Temple, an impressive 1st-century Hellenistic building that survived Christianization and earthquakes, located on the edge of a spectacular canyon of basalt columns. Nearby, we will delve into the mysticism of Geghard Monastery, partially carved into living rock, where the acoustics of its sacred chambers and intricate stone carvings will leave you breathless.
Armenia cannot be understood without its faith. Therefore, we will visit Echmiadzin, the administrative and spiritual center of the Armenian Apostolic Church, often considered the "Armenian Vatican". Here, sacred history comes alive among relics and ancient cathedrals. On the way back, the ruins of Zvartnots Cathedral, with the majestic Mount Ararat in the background, will offer one of the trip's most iconic views.
Landscapes of Water and Rock
The journey expands into nature, taking us to Lake Sevan, one of the largest high-altitude freshwater lakes in the world. We will visit the Sevanavank monastery on its peninsula, enjoying panoramic views over the turquoise waters. The route continues north to the Dilijan region, known as the "Armenian Switzerland" for its dense forests and mild climate, where we will discover hidden gems like Goshavank monastery. To the south, Khor Virap monastery will gift us the closest and most awe-inspiring view of Mount Ararat, the Armenian national symbol, before exploring the Areni wine region and Noravank monastery, an architectural masterpiece surrounded by red cliffs.
